DREAM IN BLUE words and music by Britt K. Arnesen The other night I had a dream in blue Counting stars for every time I lose you Calling out to the lonesome moon and Waiting on a white flower to bloom Float along the river's lazy bend See the willows standing hand in hand They sing about my lovesick blues and Drown me in their mournful music The other night you had a dream in red Lost your sleep to the noise of the unsaid Strange sounds from the open window Wander out to the ghost who knew you Lay me down upon the stones I threw Close my eyes so they can't accuse you Make believe that you didn't do it Innocent until they prove it Tell your alibi until it's true Swallow all the pleasures of your choosing Hear the barn owl wondering "who?" He's there to watch your every move The other night I had a dream in blue Counting stars for every time I lose you Calling out to the lonesome moon and Drowning in my mournful music

Night Sky 03:32
NIGHT SKY words and music by Britt K. Arnesen My heart speaks now listen I'll sing you a lullaby For the nightmares that you've been living Daydreams gone awry In a moment when I didn't know you A feeling green and blue A moment when I didn't know you The baby that you've been rocking Cries and cries the whole day through The phone rings door's a knockin' Lay in bed 'til noon In a moment when I didn't know you A feeling green and blue A moment when I didn't know you My heart speaks now listen I'll sing you a lullaby For the stars that you've been given Moonbeams and northern lights In a moment when I didn't know you A feeling green and blue A moment when I didn't know you A night sky in green and blue A night sky

MEMORIAL DAY ON CATTLE POINT ROAD words and music by Britt K. Arnesen Young Dana’s got a brown bag from the Little Store The devil told the young man that he could drink some more John Banjo hops in through the passenger door He don’t sense the danger The devil trailed the young men to Cattle Point Road Where they were headed that evening we’ll never quite know ‘Cause when the devil tapped his shoulder Dana lost control Of the minivan It’s Memorial Day out on Cattle Point Road We remember the heroes who’ve fallen in war Here another young life was lost but for nothing at all What a shame now Such a shame now Young Dana's back home from that hospital John Banjo is dead; it makes him a criminal John Banjo had a family, had a name he knows Haunts his days now He’s going away now It’s Memorial Day out on Cattle Point Road We remember the heroes who’ve fallen in war Here another young life was lost but for nothing at all What a shame now A banjo no one plays now In every small town there is a Dana There’s the banjo, there’s the brown bag, the devil’s waiting In the choices that we make to break or save us Every day now Each Memorial Day out on Cattle Point Road We honor the heroes who fallen in war Two more young lives lost but for nothing at all What a shame now Such a shame now

Blanket 04:05
BLANKET Words and music by Britt K. Arnesen Tear off a number and wait in a chair In a room of strangers my worries are not theirs Can't shake off this feeling that life isn't fair Careening down a broken rail With my entire life wrapped here in a blanket Soft and small, close and warm My entire life is wrapped here in a blanket That is all, that is all Thursday's a nightmare, I woke up in a fright In a cold room no refuge from fluorescent lights I'm running I'm crawling there's no place to hide From the monster's hungry eyes My entire life is wrapped here in a blanket Soft and small, close and warm My entire life is wrapped here in a blanket That is all, that is all Tuesday alone I don't wait for a call I'm done mumbling, done walking 'round wondering where you are Worrying for what I cannot change won't get me very far No monster gonna break my heart My entire life is wrapped here in a blanket Soft and small, close and warm My entire life is wrapped here in a blanket That is all, that is all Packed all my bags but I won't catch a flight Won't swing on a hammock at the house I cannot buy I'm a frequent believer in wrong black and white There's lucky ones and hard hard times My entire life is wrapped here in a blanket Soft and small, close and warm My entire life is wrapped here in a blanket That is all, that is all

Pretty Lies 03:21
PRETTY LIES by Britt K. Arnesen Sister met him at a stop He was short, she gave him five bucks Could have known he was going nowhere fast Saw them later at my gig that night He was drunk and said she looked nice She caught his bug, fell in love, lost her mind You're gonna need more than, you're gonna need more than You're gonna need more than pretty lies I hope you've come here to say your goodbyes And walk the line we draw tonight Early summer they were married All the sudden there's a baby And the bum is gone, he left a note, and her alone Still she kept the ring on Always hoping for a miracle But he didn't show, she had to get a smaller home You're gonna need more than, you're gonna need more than You're gonna need more than pretty lies I hope you've come here to say your goodbyes And walk the line we draw tonight Gotta get up on a stage now Play guitar and entertain now And watch him dance with some young thing I don't know All the money that he wasted All the times that he betrayed her All my nephew knows of a father is his ghost You're gonna need more than, you're gonna need more than You're gonna need more than pretty lies I hope you've come here to say your goodbyes Walk the line we draw tonight I hope you've come here to say your goodbyes Goodbye

BROKEN IN TWO by Britt K. Arnesen Mama comes back just to tell us she’s leaving Brother don’t take it as well as I do I’m a few years older to me she’s been colder I used to have just one heart but she broke it in two I used to have just one heart but it’s broken in two Mama’s got a plan gonna solve all her troubles Moving in with a man she knows can keep her in the booze She’s taken all the jam, put the salmon in the cans now Gonna take it all in one load and take us on load two Yeah she takes it all in one load and don’t come back for load two Some folks have one heart And they take it all in one load Yeah some folks have one heart, mine’s broken in two It’s broken in two With Mom and Dad gone we’ve been staying at Grandma’s Little brother minds his manners, doing well at the school But summer turned tragic, he slipped from my hand and was Lost to a crevasse on the glacier last June Couldn’t hold on with one hand, needed two Can’t hold on with just one hand Can’t take it all in one load And some folks have just one heart, mine’s broken in two Some kids have a dad, they got parents with a plan They go to colleges and trade schools, wear brand new shoes I’m on the ranch taking care of old grandma I don’t help out with just with one hand, I use two Can’t hold on with one hand, you need two You can’t take it all in one load Can’t hold it all in one hand And some folks have just one heart, mine’s broken in two It's broken in two Yeah some folks have just one heart

CANYON'S LULLABY by Britt K. Arnesen Little darling go to sleep my child Let the dark wash across your eyes When you wake up we'll say a long goodbye Board a plane to Juneau's sky When the wind blows and brings you letters I write Hear the music with your heart and mind Come tomorrow when your wings take flight Remember my lullaby You're far away counting ravens on the beach Enchanted forests of all the berries you can eat Catch a big fish now or just stay dry and read From time to time would you think of me When the wind blows and brings you letters I write Hear the music with your heart and mind Come tomorrow when your wings take flight Remember my lullaby I watch the coal trains you watch the sea And go to the glacier while I walk the city streets And how I miss you so much more than you miss me More than you miss me When the wind blows and brings you letters I write Hear the music with your heart and mind I'm feeling sorry for every tear you cry Always I'm by your side Little darling go to sleep my child Let the dark wash across your eyes Come tomorrow when your wings take flight Remember my lullaby

JUST WANT TO HOLD YOU NOW by Britt K. Arnesen I dreamed last night of a winter pond Fragile ice we're skating on Blinked my eyes and you were gone I just want to hold you now Letters came and people called I paced around in a fog Everyone's sorry for the loss I just want to hold you now Flowers came and people called I scraped the ice from the same old car This city is frozen like my heart And I just want to hold you now

Miss You Sam 03:07
MISS YOU SAM by Britt K. Arnesen Draw a picture of your heart now I'll play a song for only you Of the time when last I saw you Of the numbered days that we once knew Miss you Sam Potatoes for our supper On a rosemary day Magnolias from your sweetheart I'd give you every flower god ever made All for you Sam A taller tree now you're climbing Reaching up for the sky when I grabbed your hand in a dream And woke before I could say Miss you Sam Another penny from my pocket To the fountain I did throw Mumbling "I'm sorry" In a language only you and I know Miss you Sam Then I feel your wind out walking The lagoon, the driftwood caves I hear your voice in salted hollows See your smile upon madrona waves Miss you Sam A taller tree now you're climbing Reaching up for the sky when I held my breath in a dream And woke before I could say Love you Sam

WHERE’S WAYNE Words and music by Britt K. Arnesen Where is Wayne? I didn’t see him at the fair today Can’t say I’ve ever gone so long without seeing his face Like everyone, I’m wondering about where’s Wayne This whole small town’s debating about where’s Wayne Little Jane says he came to the very last show she played and Danced great, bought the band’s new record for the highway But no now, she can’t tell me he’d gone which way Jane joins the whole small town speculating about where’s Wayne She said something about him must have changed I never would have thought this town would shoo him away Now over the diesel hum of that pickup truck his country music plays He’s looking for a highway that leads to a doorway And it’s the eighth of May, humming birds and jays Garden starts, the farmer’s market, and Jodi’s got a brand new baby Not one of us has heard from our friend Wayne And this whole small town’s still debating about where’s Wayne But I know something inside us has got to change What kind of small town drives a nice young man away? He had his radio on each and every working day One day he turned it off, and now he’s gone Left us all-a-wondering where is Wayne? Living in a country song out on the highway Can’t say that without him here I’ve got a good enough reason to stay And I’m so tired of wondering about where’s Wayne While this whole small town’s speculating about where’s Wayne Well I know something inside us has got to change Before this small town drives this nice young girl away Now over the diesel hum of my pickup truck his country music plays Wayne showed me a doorway that leads to a highway I’m Looking down that highway toward that doorway

about

I went into an old Missoula building from the 1890s near the railroad tracks, and recorded these songs using a single mic, with no processing of any kind. I didn't even add any reverb. This is just what it's like to be sitting in the room with me. These are all original songs from my heart. Please enjoy.
