BARNACLE ROCK ROAD
words and music by Britt k. Arnesen
Grandma's got a cottage by the seaside
She helped my grandpa build it age of 25
Wife of a fisherman, two boys and a plan
Named that boat Happenstance
In that story Grandma told, one day on the outer coast
Three men washed ashore and a boat got crushed
Way down on Barnacle Rock Road she swears she saw their ghosts
Walking down the tideline toward the dusk
Highway 101 runs down through Bandon
Logging trucks and fishing boats and cranberries
There's hard work for an honest lad, keeps the soul from getting sad
For the young man who lost his dad
In that story Grandma told, one day on the outer coast
Three men washed ashore and a boat got crushed
Way down on Barnacle Rock Road she swears she saw their ghosts
Walking down the tideline toward the dusk
Grandma never wanted him to stay here
But he couldn't shake those sea legs, he's a mariner
He said this ain't no promised land, I feed it, it bites my hand
So he named that boat The Worried Dad
In that story Grandma told, one day on the outer coast
Three men washed ashore and a boat got crushed
Way out on Barnacle Rock Road she swears she saw their ghosts
Walking down the tideline towards the dusk
Way down on Barnacle Rock Road he can still see his father's ghost
Walking down the tideline toward his dust.

No Kind of Angel

NO KIND OF ANGEL
by Britt K. Arnesen
At the Depot, Lil and her darling another train in the night
Joining fellow wives and families kissing loved ones goodbye
She's embraced him at the station some five hundred times
And it's never gotten easier sayin' goodbye
Hardest part of lovin' him is letting him fly
-------
She's been waltzing in the garden 'neath the green northern lights
Trading Fridays with the neighbors, sharing birthdays and pies
She wonders if he's faithful; she's no kind of angel
It's a risk they've been taking making love between trains
He says the hardest part of leaving is the missing each day
She says the hardest part of loving you is feeling this way
The hardest part of loving is the living each day
------
Queue up a waltz for Lil and her darling at the depot this night
Twirl all around the floor before they’re boarding the line
She's embraced him at this station some five hundred times
And it's never gotten easier sayin' goodbye
He says the hardest part of leavin' is the look in your eyes
She says the hardest part of lovin' him is letting him fly
Hardest part of lovin' him is letting him fly
Hardest part of lovin' is the sayin' goodbye

COME ON OVER
Words and music by Britt K. Arnesen
I'm telling ya baby you'd better get here fast
I'm telling ya baby you'd better get here fast
You better come on over before the moment's passed
Biscuits in the oven potatoes ready to mash
Biscuits in the oven potatoes ready to mash
You'd better come on over before I burn it black
Kitty on the rocking chair want a belly scratch
Kitty on the rocking chair want a belly scratch
You'd better come on over before she finds another lap (mrow!!!)
Meet me in the kitchen bring your moonlight and a glass
Meet me in the kitchen bring your moonlight and a glass
You'd better come on over before my mama gets back
I'm telling ya baby...

CALL ME
words and music by Britt K. Arnesen
I've walked this gravel road a hundred times before
Back and forth, looking for your door
I play this old guitar every waking hour
Every chord is searching for your arms
The more I sing your song the more I sound like you
The more I feel your sun the more I find my moon
An arrow through brick walls somehow you made it through
Pierced my heart in two, left an open wound
I love you through and through just like you want me to
You won't believe that's true and I don't need you to
The more I sing your song the more I sound like you
The more I feel your sun the more I find my moon
Sun heats up the water and the moon pulls the tide
Never been so warm as by your side
I stand upon your shore and weather every storm
Every morn I'm yearning for your dawn
The more I sing your song the more I sound like you
The more I feel your sun the more I find my moon
I've walked this gravel road a hundred times before
Back and forth longing for your voice
I play this old guitar every waking hour
Every chord, the reaching of my arms

Treachery

TREACHERY
by Britt K. Arnesen
When I last saw the light it was shining through the trees
Out on the other side of Trouble Canyon Creek
Where the cliffs are high the chasm's dark and deep
I don’t know why I thought I could make that leap
Oh treachery what I have I done to me?
I took your chance and grabbed your broken branch now I'm swinging by my feet
When I fall and shatter all my dreams
I'm only blaming me and my treachery
In my ravine muddy water rushes by
I cling to rocks and logs whatever I can find
When my strength erodes I'll drown in misery
I only hope I'll wash out to the sea
Oh treachery what I have I done to me?
I took your chance and grabbed your broken branch now I'm swinging by my feet
When I fall and shatter all my dreams
I'm only blaming me and my treachery
Washed ashore a sandbar in the sun
I had visions of your shadow on the run
But the ravens thought my eyeballs looked like chewing gum
Now I’m blind and you’re still deaf and dumb
Oh treachery what I have I done to me?
I took your chance and grabbed your broken branch now I'm swinging by my feet
When I fall and shatter all my dreams
I'm only blaming me and my treachery
Oh Treachery
I’m only blaming me

MAN ON MY MOON
words and music by Britt K. Arnesen
You've known me, in all of your years I've been true
Held in orbit by a simple lovesick tune
I sing for you the first man on my moon
This song's for you the first man on my moon
To reach me through endless skies your song flew
Made a landing in a dream in my room
Your melody has made me a lonesome fool
Footprints stayed but the flag won't wave without you
I long for you the first man on my moon
This song's for you the first man on my moon
When you're weary I'll fill up your rocket with my fuel
Chart you a course back to my room
Renew you when you're feeling old and used
I'll shine on the light of my youth
Just for you the first man on my moon
Just for you the first man on my moon
You've known me, in all your years I've been true
Held in orbit by a simple lovesick tune
If I lost you I would paint all of my shadows in blue
Every valley, every crater, every dune
Just for you the first man on my moon
All for you the first man on my moon
All for for you the first man on my moon

ROSEMARY FLY
By Britt K. Arnesen
There’s a bench outside the theater
Sometimes I sit and wait to meet to her
In a prayer or in a letter
Perfect cursive, even in goodbye
I sing my reply, Rosemary fly
Fly knowing I'm alright
Rosemary fly, Rosemary fly
Fly knowing I'm alright
This song's a letter I felt her send me
Down through forever through heaven’s sky
It finds me better but there’s still weather
I still sing but I still cry
Rosemary fly, Rosemary fly
Fly knowing I'm alright
Rosemary fly, Rosemary fly
Fly knowing I'm alright
A golden angel, young voice singing
Favorite faces, throughout the evening
We are her children and her children's children
Beside her through the night
And the song I couldn't write was Rosemary Fly
Fly knowing we're gonna be alright
Rosemary fly, rosemary fly
Fly knowing we're alright
Rosemary fly, Rosemary fly
Fly knowing we’re alright
Rosemary fly, Rosemary fly
Fly knowing we’re alright

PAINT THE NIGHT
by Britt K. Arnesen
Let’s paint the night with northern lights
Shades of green to dance across the skies
And a crescent moon to sing the lullabies
My heart writes for you, the love of my life
When you’re lost follow my north star
When you’re lonely reach out for my arms
I’m the brightest beacon in your dark
Shining out to where your frontiers are
And paint the night with northern lights
Shades of green to dance across the skies
And a crescent moon to sing the lullabies
My heart writes for you, the love of my life
As the sun marches toward spring’s day
This night, winter’s cold remains
I’m by your side an ever-burning fire
Your warmth is all that I desire
Painted night with northern lights
Shades of green to dance across our skies
And a crescent moon to sing the lullabies
My heart writes for you, the love of my life
Let’s paint the night
In shades of green
In shades of blue
A crescent moon, the love of my life
Paint the night with northern lights
Shades of green to dance across our skies
And a crescent moon to sing the lullabies
My heart writes for you, the love of my life
The love of my life

Ciel Étoilé
By Britt K. Arnesen
On ne sait jamais (you never know)
On ne sait jamais
On ne sait jamais
L’amour mystère (mystery love)
De l’autre côté du soleil (from the other side of the sun)
Une poème que la nuit m'a soufflé (a breathy song of the night)
Avec toi dans un rêve j’ai dansé (I danced with you in a dream)
That first kiss, le ciel etoilé (the starry night)
On ne sait jamais
On ne sait jamais
On ne sait jamais
L’amour mystére
Je brule de fièvre (I burn with fever) all for you
Cette maladie me coutera tout (This sickness will cost me everything)
I never stop loving you even when you tell the truth
Le matin tu auras disparu (Tomorrow you'll have disappeared)
Raison, nous l’avons perdue (Reason, we've lost you)
On ne sait jamais
On ne sait jamais
On ne sait jamais
L’amour mystère
Embrasse-moi avant de t'en aller, donne-moi (Kiss me before you go, give me)
Quelque chose que je peux garder (Something I can hold onto)
As I cross endless oceans of shame
Calling your name
Oh comme j’espère (oh how I hope)
On ne sait jamais comme j’espère
On ne sait jamais
On ne sait jamais
L’amour mystère
Le ciel étoilé

The Painting

THE PAINTING
words and music by Britt K. Arnesen
He traced all of our plans upon a canvas
An ordered mingling of lines
Tender like the first brush between us
Feathered, a sunset goodbye
And a finely painted face
Of some other lady
Whose picture don’t look like mine
Postcards and letters from their daydreams
Her young love and beauty made him blind
He traded our promises for her maybes
The mailbox a witness to his crime
And a neatly written name
Of some other lady
Whose song doesn’t sound like mine
Sorrow in the shadow of his freedom
He’d see heartache if he ever looked behind
Betrayal has a way of getting even
Hiding snakes in green grass on the other side
Where the painting hangs
At the home of some other lady
Whose colors don’t bleed like mine
A finely painted face
Of some other lady
Whose colors don’t fade like mine

GETTING THE PAPER
by Britt K. Arnesen
To the mailbox get the paper
Headlines, read the rest later
Dermot writes 'bout the weather
Her coffee cup drinks in it all
The schoolbus finds the children
Sidewalk finds the pigeons
Cell phone finds her busy
Her true love don't find her at all
On a holiday she gets festive
On her birthday she gets presents
At the party she'll play dress up
But her true love won't notice at all
The schoolbus finds the children
Sidewalk finds the pigeons
Cell phone finds her busy
Her true love don't find her at all
On the website she's a writer
Get to know her there's no denying
That woman's made of lightning
But her true love never put up his rod
The schoolbus finds the children
Sidewalk finds the pigeons
Cell phone finds her busy
Her true love don't find her at all
Her true love won't give her a call
Her true love's out walking his dog

CAPTAIN HARRIS
by Britt K. Arnesen adapted from traditional "Gentle Annie"
Harvest time's come, Captain Harris
Big red buoys mark the pots we filled with bait
You'll be anxious to know, Captain Harris
How Cornelia Marie is going to fare
We'll say farewell, Captain Harris
On the Bering Sea you warmed our winter days
Yes we'll bid you adieu, Captain Harris
Till we meet you on heaven's fishing day
The quotas we must reach, Captain Harris
Red king crabs, opies, tanners make our day
Cornelia Marie's sweet on the cameras
But we'll lose her to the dry dock if she don't pay
We'll say farewell, Captain Harris
On the Bering Sea you warmed our winter days
Yes we'll bid you adieu, Captain Harris
Till we meet you on heaven's fishing day
Rascal wink, enormous heart, Captain Harris
You traded honest work for an honest wage
We won't sidestep the job, we won't cut corners
'Cause your memory keeps us chugging through the waves
We'll say farewell, Captain Harris
On the Bering Sea you warmed our winter days
Yes we'll bid you adieu, Captain Harris
Till we meet you on another fishing day
Till we meet you
Till we meet you on heaven's fishing day

MIDDLE OF THE RAINBOW
Words and music by Britt K. Arnesen
He said meet me in the middle of the rainbow
Sunshine in the eye of the storm
When you’ve squandered every ounce of your gold
And you’ve burned the last bridge that could get you back home
He was walking down the floodwaters churning
When a charcoaled beam drifted by
Then he smelled the smell of bridges burning
The woman who once loved him, trapped on his side
He said welcome to the middle of the rainbow
I’ll bet your wonderin’ which way to go
He said you look like you just came from another empty pot of gold
Now why’d you burn the last bridge that could get you back home?
Sundrops in the raindrops
Wind through the folds of her dress
Thunder said no, but that lightning said yes
‘Neath the middle of the rainbow, she found that caress
Se said love’s like the middle of a rainbow
Sunshine in the eye of the storm
You’re never gonna know if it’s coming or gone
Savor that rainbow it won’t be here for long
Savor that rainbow
You’ve got to savor that rainbow
You’re never gonna know if it’s coming or gone
Savor that rainbow
Savor that rainbow it won’t be here for long
